PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil provides superior protection and performance in the most severe automotive driving conditions. AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil provides a wide range of protection in all four-cycle gasoline and diesel engines, including pickups, RVs, cars and off-highway vehicles. It is recommended for use in vehicles subject to stop-and-go driving, short trips, high temperatures, frequent trailer pulling and off-road use.

RESISTS HIGH TEMPERATURE VAPORIZATION
Conventional motor oils tend to "boil off" in high temperatures, losing up to 25 percent of their original weight. These vaporized oils circulate poorly, reduce fuel efficiency and contribute to excessive emissions and engine wear. AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil resists vaporization. In fact, according to the NOACK Volatility Test, which measures the weight loss of an oil due to evaporation, AMSOIL High Performance 10W-40 only loses 7.0 percent of its weight in high temperature service, surpassing rigorous European standards set at 13 percent weight loss in high temperature testing. The superior vaporization resistance of AMSOIL High Performance 10W-40 keeps engine wear, oil consumption and emissions to a minimum, while keeping oil circulation efficient and fuel economy high.

RESISTS OXIDATION AND THERMAL BREAKDOWN
Conventional oils oxidize in high operating temperatures, producing sludge and deposit build-up that contribute to corrosion, increased engine wear and decreased fuel economy. AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil resists oil breakdown, maintaining its cooling and lubricating properties and providing extended drain intervals. It continues to provide maximum protection at temperatures that oxidize conventional oils. The advanced heat transfer capabilities and high lubricity of AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil keep engines running in their optimum temperature range for top performance and long life.

PROVIDES HIGH SHEAR STABILITY
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil surpasses the North American SAE and European ACEA oil specifications for high temperature/high shear (HTHS) viscosity. It retains its viscosity at temperatures and loads that cause conventional oils to shear back to a lower viscosity. AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil maintains an extremely protective viscosity of 3.93 cP at 302°F (150°C) in the ASTM D 4683 High Temperature/High Shear Test, significantly exceeding test limits.

PROVIDES LOW TEMPERATURE PROTECTION
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil remains fluid at temperatures as low as -54°F (-48°C), permitting easy engine cranking for quick starts. During sub-zero temperatures, it flows to all parts of the engine much quicker than conventional petroleum oils, greatly reducing the rate of wear and increasing engine life.

RESISTS DEPOSIT INFORMATION
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil is highly resistant to oxidation, running significantly cleaner than conventional motor oils. AMSOIL 10W-40 has a superior detergent/dispersant additive package that, when tested after tens of thousands of miles of use in the crankcase, still exhibits outstanding deposit control.

INHIBITS RUST AND CORROSION
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil contains special rust and corrosion inhibitors to protect iron parts, as well as copper, lead and aluminum bearing materials.

PROVIDES EXTENDED DRAIN INTERVALS
AMSOIL High Performance Synthetic 10W-40 Motor Oil features a superior synthetic composition and advanced performance additives, performing much longer than competing conventional and synthetic oils. No other major oil manufacturer matches AMSOIL's 25,000-mile or one-year drain interval recommendations.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil is a premium quality all fleet lubricant, specifically designed for use in commercial, industrial and fleet applications requiring diesel specifications CF, CF-2, CG-4, and CH-4 and API SH, SJ gasoline engine lubrication requirements.

Resists Oxidation and Thermal Breakdown
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil resists breakdown from heat, blowby chemicals and oxygen up to ten times longer than do conventional oils. AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil resists forming sludge and varnish deposits, which contribute to corrosion, decreased fuel efficiency and increased engine wear. AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil doesn't thicken like conventional oils but maintains its viscosity, providing peak engine performance and extended drain intervals. AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil's superior heat transfer properties and exceptional lubricity reduces engine operating temperatures and engine wear.

Fuel Efficient Formula
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil efficiently transfers energy from the engine to the drive-train. Its low coefficient of friction inhibits the energy loss to "drag" common to high viscosity oils. AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil surpasses the API Energy Conserving Rating requirements and provides significant fuel savings, with additional savings in oil make-up for over-the-road service.

Low Temperature Protection
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil remains fluid at temperatures as low as -60° F (-51° C). It circulates rapidly to provide vital lubrication and prevent engine wear caused by lack of oil flow. AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil allows quicker, easier cold temperature starting with significantly reduced engine wear.

Reduces Oil Consumption
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil loses only 8.6 percent of its mass to high temperature volatilization. Conventional multi grade oils often lose over 15 percent. Lower volatility means less oil vapor passing into the combustion chamber, resulting in a reduction in oil consumption and hydrocarbon emissions. Additionally, lower volatilization helps AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil retain its viscosity characteristics after high temperature service for continued dependable protection and excellent fuel economy.

Non-Foaming
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil contains highly effective anti-foam agents to prevent oil foaming.

Extended Drain Intervals
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil is specifically designed for long drain capability in both diesel and gasoline engines. Its unique synthetic formulation, improved detergent/dispersant capabilities and long drain additive package ensure maximum engine protection, cleanliness and performance over extended drain intervals. The extended drain intervals allowable with AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil reduce vehicle downtime and waste oil disposal costs.

Unsurpassed Engine Protection
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil's higher VI provides a better protective film at higher temperatures than conventional SAE 40 oils, while remaining fluid at subzero temperatures. In every engine tested, AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil's unique technology significantly reduced ring wear, cylinder bore polishing, cylinder lining wear, oil consumption, piston deposits and ring breakage.

Exceeds Emission System Requirements

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Diesel Oil is a low sulfated ash formulation that exceeds the modern requirements for low emission quality diesel oil. It is compatible with all exhaust treatment devices and is designed to extend the service life of particulate filters.

Controls Soot Thickening and Wear

The advanced synthetic base oils in AMSOIL 5W-40 Diesel Oil are naturally resistant to soot contamination. That, along with a heavy fortification of detergent/dispersant additives, keeps soot particles suspended independently, helping prevent the formation of larger wear causing particles. Viscosity increase is minimized and soot related wear is controlled.

Maximizes Fuel Economy and Reduces Oil Consumption

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil has a very low high temperature volatility rate (burn off). Because less oil vapor passes into the combustion chamber, oil consumption and emissions are reduced. Additionally, lower volatility helps AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 retain its viscosity after high temperature service for continued dependable protection and excellent fuel economy.

Excels in Extreme Temperatures

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil resists thermal (heat) breakdown, oxidation and sludge formation better than conventional petroleum oils. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Diesel Oil is a modern blend of high performance synthetic base stocks, natural base stocks, and advanced additives. It provides outstanding performance and protection over extended drain intervals in light and heavy-duty diesel engines.

Remains Stable at Temperature Extremes
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 does not change viscosity (thicken or thin) at temperature extremes like conventional motor oils. With its advanced semi-synthetic formulation, AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 is significantly more shear stable than conventional oils, retaining its viscosity at temperatures and loads that break down conventional motor oils.

Resists Oxidation - Reduces Engine Wear
Conventional oils oxidize at high temperatures, causing sludge and deposit build-up that decrease fuel efficiency, contribute to corrosion, and increase engine wear. AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Motor Oil resists oxidation and thermal breakdown far better than conventional oils. It continues to lubricate, cool and protect at temperatures that oxidize conventional oils. In addition, the advanced heat transfer capabilities and high lubricity of AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 help engines run cooler with less wear.

Extended Drain Intervals
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 is formulated for extended drain intervals. Its unique synthetic formulation, excellent detergent/dispersant capabilities, and long drain additive package ensure maximum engine protection, cleanliness, and performance over extended drain periods. In fact, 12 TBN AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Motor Oil keeps engines in "like-new" condition even when the oil is used for extended service intervals.

Improves Cold Weather Performance
Due to their wax content, conventional oils thicken in cold temperatures and, on cold starts, may take as long as five minutes to lubricate internal engine parts. AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 stays fluid at very low temperatures. It circulates rapidly to provide vital lubrication and prevent engine wear caused by lack of oil flow. AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 allows quicker, easier cold temperature starting with less engine wear.

Reduces Oil Consumption
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 is low volatility oil. Low volatility means less oil vapor passing into the combustion chamber. A reduction of oil vapor means lower oil consumption and lower exhaust emissions. The high detergent alkalinity of AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 also helps reduce oil consumption.

Improves Fuel Economy and Reduces Emissions
The premium quality synthetic base oil in AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 provides a tough lubricating film on all engine parts, reducing friction and fuel consumption. Reducing fuel consumption reduces exhaust emissions.

Protects Against Rust and Corrosion
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 contains special rust-inhibiting additives. It is ideal for use in engines used intermittently.

MIXING AMSOIL
AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 is compatible with petroleum and synthetic lubricants; however, mixing the AMSOIL with other oils will shorten the extended drain period. Oil additives or after-market products are not recommended for use with AMSOIL Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Motor Oil.

AMSOIL Synthetic 15W-40 Diesel Oil provides
maximum protection for up to 3X the OEM-recommended drain interval, and further with oil analysis.

Controls Soot-Thickening and Wear
The advanced synthetic base oils in AMSOIL 15W-40 Diesel Oil are naturally resistant to soot contamination. That, along with a heavy fortification of detergent/dispersant additives, keeps soot particles suspended independently, helping prevent the formation of larger, wear-causing particles. Viscosity increase is minimized and soot-related wear is
controlled.

Superior Shear Stability, Reduced Oil Consumption
AMSOIL Synthetic 15W-40 Diesel Oil has lower volatility (burn-off) than conventional petroleum oils. Because less oil vapor passes into the combustion chamber, oil consumption and emissions are reduced. Lower volatility helps AMSOIL Premium Diesel Oil retain its viscosity after high-temperature service for continued dependable protection.

Engine Protection Filters Drive Costs Down

Donaldson Endurance lube filters are made using exclusive advanced synthetic media technologies. Synthetic media technology delivers cost saving benefits with:

• Extended Service Life • Greater engine protection to prolong engine and equipment life • Improved lubricant flow • Improved cold start performance • Reduced operating costs • Can be used beyond OEM drain intervals

Donaldson Endurance™ oil filters are made with premium advanced synthetic media technology that results in fibers that have a controlled size, shape and smaller fiber diameter.

The controlled media manufacturing process allows Donaldson Endurance™ oil filters to deliver both higher dirt holding capacity at the same pressure differential and higher efficiency compared to conventional cellulose filters. The synthetic media also has better durability with usage.

Throughout the service life of a cellulose filter, hot oil will degrade the resins that bind the media. The synthetic media technology uses a wire screen backing pleated with the media, resulting in superior strength.

Donaldson Endurance™ oil filters offer extended service intervals, greater engine protection to prolong engine and equipment life, improved lubricant flow, improved cold start performance and lower operating costs.

Donaldson Endurance™ Oil Filters
With Nanofiber vs. Conventional Cellulose
Small, consistent synthetic fibers trap smaller particles and hold more contaminants, resulting in lower restriction.

Cellulose fibers are inconsistent in size and shape, allowing more contaminants to pass through, resulting in higher restriction and lower capacity.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Ea By-Pass Oil Filter (EaBP) provides the best possible filtration protection against wear and oil degradation. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, the AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filter operates by filtering oil on a “partial-flow” basis. It draws approximately 10 percent of the oil pump’s capacity at any one time and traps the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can’t remove. The AMSOIL Ea Bypass Filter typically filters all the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil.

New Aluminum Billet Oil Fill and Oil Filter Caps for BMK21 By-Pass Filtration System

AMSOIL offers by-pass components to ease the installation of the BMK21 By-Pass Filtration System in three popular diesel engines: the Ford 6.0L Power Stroke™, the Dodge 5.9L Cummins and the General Motors 6.6L Duramax.

Engine compartments are becoming increasingly cramped, leaving little room for after-market additions and improvements. The BMK21 is a single remote by-pass filter system that fits into much smaller spaces than the AMSOIL Dual-Remote By-Pass System.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke™ Diesels
To ease installation of the BMK21 on 2003 and later model Ford pickups equipped with the 6.0L Power Stroke™ diesel engine, AMSOIL provides the new Aluminum Billet Oil Filter Cap (BK1101), the Aluminum Billet Oil Fill Cap (BK1102) and the 90-degree JIC Elbow (BP242). These new high-quality billet aluminum caps replace the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) filter cap and oil fill cap. The new caps have holes tapped in them that accept the JIC elbows for hose connectors.

Dodge 5.9L/6.7L Cummins Diesels
To ease installation of the BMK21 in later model Dodge pickups equipped with the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins diesel engine, AMSOIL offers the 1/8" NPT - 1/4" JIC fitting (BP241), the Aluminum Billet Oil Fill Cap for Dodge 5.9L Cummins diesels (BK1301) and the 90-degree JIC Elbow (BP242). The BP241 fits onto the existing plug on top of the OEM full-flow filter mount, and the addition of the BK1301 eases the installation of the oil return line.

General Motors 6.6L Duramax Diesels
To provide GM Duramax owners the same ease of installing the BMK21, AMSOIL is now offering an oil filter “Sandwich” adapter (BK1201).

The Sandwich adapter is an anodized billet aluminum adapter that screws on to the present full flow oil filter nipple located on the engine block. The full flow filter is then simply spun on to the adapter. The Sandwich adapter has an orifice to provide high-pressure oil feed for the BMK21. Like the other diesel applications, AMSOIL now offers an Aluminum Billet Oil Filler Cap for (BK1202) to ease the installation of the oil flow from the BMK11 back to the engine. To complete an installation, the following components must be purchased separately:

1. Aluminum oil filter Sandwich Adapter with o-ring (BK1201)
2. Aluminum Billet Oil Filler Cap for GM Duramax (BK1202)
3. Two 90 degree JIC Elbows (BP242)
4. Single Remote By-pass system (BMK21)
5. By-pass filter (EaBP90, EaBP100, or EaBP110, as space dictates)

Higher Efficiency
AMSOIL EaBP Filters have an efficiency of 98.7 percent at two microns. At normal operating RPMs the EaBP Filter will filter all of the oil in a typical five quart sump in less than 10 minutes.

Superior Construction
The superior construction of AMSOIL EaBP Filters provides better sealing and increased longevity along with superior corrosion resistance. AMSOIL EaBP Filters have a marine powder coated exterior; and their zinc-dichromate base plates increase rust protection. EaBP Filters have a nitrile HNBR gasket and an orange silicone anti-drain valve. The two stage pleated and layered cellulose/full synthetic media has an efficiency rating of 98.7 percent at two microns.

Longer Lasting
When used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil and an AMSOIL EaO or Donaldson Endurance™ filter, the EaBP should be changed every other full-flow filter change up to 60,000 miles. When used with other brands of motor oil or full-flow filters, the EaBP Filter should be changed every other full-flow filter change. AMSOIL recommends using oil analysis when extending oil drain intervals.

Increased Oil Capacity
The increased fluid system capacity and filtration life provides improved oil cooling and ensures that equipment constantly runs on clean oil. Engine efficiency is increased, providing extended engine life.

Soot Removal
AMSOIL has designed a high-efficiency by-pass filter element that is also a soot removal device. AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filters use a synthetic/cellulose sandwiched media. The inner layer of the element is composed of a highly efficient cellulose media covered with a full synthetic media outer layer. These filters remove 39 percent of soot contaminants less than one micron. Soot removal efficiency increases approximately 10 to 14 percent when the EaBP Filter is used in conjunction with a standard full-flow filter.

By-Pass Filtration Benefits

• Dramatically Extended Drain Intervals
• Improved Oil Cooling
• Increased Filtration Capacity and Life

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Read all instructions completely before attempting to install this unit. Improper installation could result in serious system and/or equipment damage. The installation of this system is not difficult, however, some mechanical ability is necessary. If you are not comfortable with the instructions or have questions, do not attempt to install this system. Consult a mechanic or contact AMSOIL INC. for further instructions or assistance.

If installing on a Japanese- or European-built vehicle utilizing Metric or B.S.P. threads, additional parts may be required. Consult step 0.1 before you continue.

WARNING: This filter system is not designed to replace the engine's normal full-flow filter. Do not attempt to install a by-pass filter element in place of the existing full-flow filter.

WARNING: Extreme care should be taken to avoid bodily harm during installation. Before starting, ensure the engine is cool to avoid burns and never work in the engine compartment area with the engine running.

A. Getting started
1. Check all parts against the parts list and inspect for damage.

2. Make sure you have the tools needed for the job.

Recommended tool list

5/16" Allen wrench
Torque wrench
Drill
7/16" wrench (2)
Hammer
1/4" drill bit
7/8" wrench
Center punch
Adjustable filter wrench
9/16" wrench

3. Because of the wide range of possible mounting configurations, hose and hose fittings are not provided with this mount. Hose should meet or exceed SAE-100R6 specifications, and have a minimum inside diameter of 1/4". The mount itself has 3/4"-16 straight threads and the adapter fittings provided are 3/4"-16 straight x 1/4" JIC. Read through instructions and determine which plumbing arrangement best fits your application. Purchase hose and fittings according Make certain hose fittings match the type of hose chosen. Note: Hose and hose fittings are available from AMSOIL and your local AMSOIL Dealer. Refer to diagram D below and the parts list for 1/4" components matched for use with this system.

B. Filter selection
Any of the 3 different sizes of the AMSOIL Spin-On By-Pass Oil Filter elements may be used with this mount. Select the element size according to your vehicle's oil capacity.

Vehicle Oil Capacity Recommended Element
15 to 18 quarts use two EaBP-90
15 to 30 quarts use two EaBP-100
15 to 42 quarts use two EaBP-110

Service recommendations for these filters are listed later in these instructions. Selecting a larger filter than recommended will extend the service interval, while selecting a smaller filter than recommended will shorten the service interval.

C. Attaching the filter mount

1. Survey the engine compartment for possible mounting locations. Solid structures such as the firewall, fender well, radiator support or frame are normal locations. Refer to diagram A for minimum area requirements and consider accessibility for servicing.

2. Note that the filter mount can be rotated 180° in its mounting brackets. This allows the oil supply and return hoses to enter the mount on either the right of left hand side. Choose the side that will minimize the need for bends in the hoses or additional hose fittings. Refer to diagram B for preferred mounting positions.

3. When the location has been determined, use the mounting template provided to locate and mark mounting holes. This can be easily done with a center punch and hammer.

4. With a 1/4" drill bit, drill out the previously marked mounting holes and attach the two piece mount bracket. Use the 4 -1" long 1/4" bolts, nuts, small washer and fender washers provided. Note the assembly diagram D for details. Using two 7/16" wrenches or socket, tighten to 8 foot pounds.

5. Apply thread sealant onto the "0" ring adapter fitting (BP-213) and the restriction assembly (BP-202) as noted in diagram C. Install the "0" ring adapter fitting (BP-213) in the mount end adjacent to the arrows pointing IN. Install the restriction assembly (BP-202) in the mount end adjacent to the arrow pointing OUT. Using a 7/8" wrench, tighten both fittings to 40-43 foot pounds.
Warning: The system is designed for partial/by-pass oil flow. Failure to install the restrictor assembly (BP-202) can result in serious equipment damage.

6. Apply thread sealant as noted indiagram C to the Allen head "0" ring plugs (BP-191). Using a 5/16" Allen head wrench, install plugs in remaining mount ports and tighten to 40-43 foot pounds. Note: If optional oil sampling valve is to be used, refer to diagram D and install in place of either Allen head "0" ring plug.

7. Attach the filter mount to the mounting brackets using 4 - 1-1/2" long 1/4" bolts, nuts and washers provided. Warning: The bolts must be installed so that the nuts are on the side opposite the filter nipples. Failure to do this will result in the bolts hitting the oil filters. Using two 7/16" wrenches or socket, tighten to 8 foot pounds.

D. Oil Supply
1. Usable oil pressure sources are available on many engine blocks. There are openings into the oil channel through the side of the block and in the area of the existing oil filter(s). Make sure it is an oil pressure opening by replacing the plug with a gauge and turning the engine over, or by turning the engine over with the plug out and watching for increased flow. DO NOT START ENGINE WITHOUT PREPARATION TO CONTROL THE OIL FLOW. Install appropriate fitting to accept your hose connector.

2. An alternate installation is to use the existing oil pressure sending unit. Remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a street tee. Then re-install the sending unit in one arm of the tee. Note: With this installation a slightly lower oil pressure reading may register, indicating oil flow to the by-pass filter. A change of 10% or less is not to be considered significant.

3. Install selected hose and hose fittings between the engine block or the remaining arm of the tee and the filter mount port marked with the arrow pointing IN. Hose should be routed in a manner that avoids contact with sharp or moving parts and minimizes bends. If bends in the hose can not be avoided, make sure the bend is greater than the minimum radius recommended by the hose manufacturer. Note: Bends should not start at the fitting. Refer to diagram E for suggestions on proper hose routing.

4. To maintain hose position, plastic hose ties are advised.

E. Oil Return
1. Existing Porting Options: Most engines have an oil return opening in the crankcase wall or oil pan, usually on the same side as the oil channel pressure opening but somewhat lower. Remove the plug and determine that it is not a pressurized port and offers an unrestricted flow to the oil pan. Install the appropriate fitting to accept your hose fitting. Attach and route hose, connecting to the filter mount port marked with the arrow pointing OUT. This should be the same port in which you previously installed the restrictor assembly (BP-202).

2. New Porting Option: Where an installation requires a new hole (in oil pan or valve cover), a self-tapping hollow bolt may be used. (The bolt is available from AMSOIL. Order BP-40 Bolt and BP-41 Sealing Gasket.) Note: The self-tapping hollow bolt should be used on stamped metal components only.

a. For oil pan installation, mark a spot approximately 3" above the bottom of the pan. Avoid any pan formations that may suggest an internal obstruction. For the valve cover, choose a mounting location that will not interfere with the movement of internal components and away from the crankcase ventilation lines.

b. Using a center punch and hammer, punch a hole in the chosen location between 1/4" (.25") and 5/16" (.3125") in diameter. Note: Do not drill this hole as metal fillings are likely to enter the engine and it will pro- duce a weaker attachment of the self-tapping hollow bolt.

c. Using a 9A6" wrench, thread in the self-tapping hollow bolt (BP-40) and sealing gasket (BP-41). As the bolt is tightened, make sure sealing gasket is snug all the way around the bolt. Tighten bolt to 6-8 foot pounds.

d. Install the appropriate fitting to accept your hose fitting. Attach and route hose, connecting to the filter mount port marked with the arrow pointing OUT. Again this should be the same port in which you previously installed the restrictor assembly (BP-202).

3. Other Options: Use a hollow bolt (available locally) to replace a cap screw holding such components as the fuel pump, timing case, or an inspection cover. Remove the selected bolt and determine if it provides an unrestricted passage to the oil pan. If so, install the hollow bolt. Route and connect hose as previously described. You may also use the AMSOIL Oil Return Swivel fitting (BP-89). See additional information on swivel fitting below.

4. Fill the selected AMSOIL By-Pass Filter elements with the same motor oil being used in the vehicle. Lubricate the filter gasket with oil and spin filters onto mount. Tighten one full turn after filter gasket first contacts mount, back off 1/8".

F. Start up procedures
1. Check that all fittings and hoses are securely attached, and that the hoses are routed properly.

2. Check engine oil level. Fill to full mark if necessary.

3. Set vehicle parking brake. With transmission in park/neutral start the engine and immediately check oil pressure. Note: Pressure may initially take a moment or two to rise.
Caution: Carefully check for leaks at fittings, hoses and mount. If leaks are observed, STOP ENGINE IMMEDIATELY, repair leaks and continue.

4. After engine has warmed, shut off and re-check engine oil level. Fill as necessary.

5. Record vehicle mileage/operating hours and date of installation.

G. Periodic maintenance
1. Periodic visual inspection of the fittings and hoses is recommended. Check for leaks, hose deterioration and cuts. Repair and/or replace as necessary.

2. Properly sized, your AMSOIL By-Pass filters will last twice as long as your regular full-flow filters. It is recommended however, filters be changed using an oil analysis program.

3. To change the filter elements:

a. Ensure engine is off and use caution as the engine, oil and filters may be hot and could result in an injury.
b. Using a filter wrench, remove the filter elements. Dispose of properly.
c. Clean the filter gasket contact areas on the mount with a clean lint free rag.
d. Lubricate the new filter gaskets with clean oil or grease.
e. Fill filters as full as possible with engine oil.
f. Screw on new filters, tighten one full turn after filter gasket contacts mount. Back off 1/8".
g. Start engine and check for leaks.
h. Check engine oil level, fill as needed.
i. Record vehicle mileage/operating hours for future reference.

By-Pass Oil Filter Return-Line Fitting

A swivel fitting can be installed directly on your oil filter cap for the oil return-line from the AMSOIL By-Pass Filter. This fitting can be used (in most cases) instead of the self-tapping hollow bolt, which is usually installed on the oil pan. The Return-Line Fitting is made of a sturdy brass-alloy and is constructed so that the top of the fixture can swivel. This makes it easy to take off your oil cap. The installation of the fitting is simple and generally takes 5-10 minutes. Order BP-89. Be sure there is not a crankcase vent in this area.
